Walnut

Walnuts (akhrot) in India are popularly grown in the northwest Himalayan belt. Jammu & Kashmir, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh are the biggest contributors to walnut cultivation. However, commercial farming of walnut in India is very profitable.

Raisin

The cultivation of cashew in India covers approximately 1.0 million hectares of land with the production of approximately 1.0 million tonnes (MT) annually. Maharashtra is India's largest cashew nut producing state, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.

Cashew

The major almond producing states in India are: Jammu and Kashmir accounts for 91.26% of the total almond production in India. The main almond producing districts in Jammu and Kashmir are Pulwama, Shopian, Kulgam, Ganderbal, and Baramulla. Himachal Pradesh accounts for 10% of the total almond production in India.

Almonds

Popularly called kishmish in India, raisins are naturally sweet dry grapes and are loaded with dietary fiber, fat, protein, various vitamins, and minerals. They help in better digestion of food and regulate blood pressure well.

Macadamia Nuts

The macadamia nut can be produced successfully in areas where avocado, papaya, mango and banana do well. After the signing of FTA between India and Australia, there is import of Macadamia in India for snacking and direct eating.

Others

In India Chestnut and Pecan nut can also be easily grown as require the same climate as walnut.

Walnut and Other Nut Fruit Growers Association of India (WANGAI)

The need of a single platform for Walnut and other Nuts developmental activity strongly emerged; and after due deliberation "Walnut and Other Nut Fruit Growers Association of India (WANGAI) was registered on 31st Jan 2013 having received clearance from Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation, Government of India & Ministry of Consumer affairs, for the promotion of nuts in the country.

Considering WANGAI efforts for promotion of Walnut and other Nuts in country, National Horticulture Borad (NHB), Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India has given recognition to WANGAI. The association is also a registered member with Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India.
