Varieties

Central Institute of Temperate Horticulture (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) have released promising walnut varieties. These varieties are suitable for temperate North Western Himalayan agro-eco system. Ten promising varieties, CITH Walnut 1, CITH Walnut 2, CITH Walnut 3, CITH Walnut 4 and up to CITH Walnut 10, are suitable for export market as well as for domestic consumption.

Plantation

The organised commercial plantation of walnut is very much required of lateral bearing grafted walnut plants, in last ten years increase in plantation have been observed in Uttarakhand under UFRMP-JICA project and in Jammu & Kashmir region of CITH varieties.
